How far will Forensics 101 Travel?

Forensics 101 travels all over.  There is no limit to how far we will travel.  Please note that a travel charge will be incurred on locations 20 miles outside of Charlotte City Center.  Beginning at mile 21 at $0.46 per mile fee will be included our fee.  On locations that are more than two hours outside of Charlotte City Center, $150 a night accommodation fee may also be included.

Are workshops “one-time” or are there a series of classes?

Each workshop offered at the Forensics 101 lab is a “one-time” class.  However, if you are interested in a series of workshops you can join several organizations and groups around the Metro area that is offering a series of Forensics 101 forensic science workshops.

Are there any topics which might be questionable for kids of certain ages?

Absolutely not.  We feel very strongly about making all of our material age appropriate.  All of our material is age appropriate.  The director and instructors are all parents and feel very strongly about making everything age appropriate.  Some parents watch television shows that deal with forensic sciences and think that they have themes and scenes which are too intense for kids to handle.  We agree completely.  For instance, if we have a younger group and we are doing blood evidence, we talk in terms of a drop of blood that might be left from a paper cut, instead of a pool of blood at a murder scene.

Can you teach forensic science courses to my group over a 8 week period or longer?

It is possible!  We have received many requests to teach courses for next fall from several homeschool groups, therefore space and available times are filling up fast.  Those requests are considered on a first-come basis.  If you are interested, send me an email with the following information (where your group is located, age range of students, when classes would begin, how many weeks you are interested in, material your group is interested in covering).

What do the fees cover?

Fees charged covers lecture, materials, and supplies.  Students do not need bring anything to class.  Everything they need will be provided.

Is there any book work?

These workshops are designed to be very hands-on with very little book work.  We can provide references and suggested reading lists, but those will be completely optional for the student.

In the Family Workshops, do participants have to be related?

No.  Not at all.  Participants in the family workshops do not have to be related.  Parents can participate with their child and a neighbor child, or a church or team group leader may participate with several of its members.  However, at least one participant should be a consenting adult.  No family relation is required, however, if students do not participate with their parent or guardian, they will be asked to return a signed consent form from their parent or guardian before they can participate in the workshop.

My child is younger than the required age, can he/she still participate?

If you feel your son or daughter can handle the pace of the workshops than absolutely sign him or her up.  The workshops are designed to be very hands-on and engaging.  If you believe your child will enjoy this and can handle being in a group of older students then these workshops would be perfect for him.

What is the maximum number of kids in each workshop?

It depends on the location that is sponsoring the workshop.  Some libraries and community groups limit their registration to 10 participants.  In order for each student to benefit from what the class has to offer, we suggest a class size of 10-15 students per class, depending on the workshop type.

How far in advance can I register?

Parents can register students as early as desired.  Just put the desired class date on the registration form.  Workshops are filling up fast.  Therefore early registration is recommended.

Is there a sibling discount?

Yes!  There is a 10% sibling discount for most programs.  These discounts will be posted with the program information.
